In this course EN4166, I think I may learn about some sorts of new software and new way that people would communicate with each other which is interesting and useful to know. Yet, followed by a technological advance, there must be impacts on the society, to understand the consequence of the new technology will enable us to better utilize the new tools, which makes the last aspects that I wish and expect to learn from this course.
In this post I would share my favorite website, which is http://www.epicfail.com/. It is a website that people share funny pictures and in a particular format (which is that you have to suit the theme fail, better with some descriptions.). To some extent, this website has become a powerful communication tool for people to share the interesting aspects they saw in the daily life. Yet to me, I didn't see it this far, and it is merely a website to trigger my laughter and help to reduce my stress lol.
To someone who is blind to new technology like me, sometimes this could happen. :P
Haha...that is DEFINITELY an interaction that I might have with my mom! : )
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note, I agree that with the dawn of new technologies and new media writing tools comes a new set of consequences and societal impacts. As I said in one of my early posts, I respect the Amish for having realized this fact much more clearly than the rest of society. Although I don't believe that we have teased out the answer just yet, I strongly feel that it is important that we keep asking the questions "How has technology influenced our society?" "Has it been a net improvement or has it done more harm than good?" "What will the effects of the new technologies we are developing be?" "Are those effects worth it?".
I've been asking myself those questions throughout the semester as we discuss new content creation tools, and I'll admit, they are difficult questions to answer. However, as difficult as they may be, I firmly believe that they are essential queries.
Regarding to your question on whether technology benefits or harms us, I have several new thoughts as well. For most of the time, technology development is initially for the sake of mankind. For example, the invention of TNT is for mining, quarrying and construction. Yet people still make use of this technology in war, so is it technology's fault or it is just the dark side of humanity that is to be blamed?
